PRAIRIE DOGS
We have one of the eastern most colonies of prairie dogs in Texas. They live in a "family" social unit called a coterie with one male, several females, and offspring. Prairie dogs will greet each other with a kiss. They spend most of their day foraging, grooming, or sleeping. They come out of their holes at the cool times of the day. While out foraging, one dog will stay atop the hole as a lookout for predators and give a warning bark to signal others to return to the hole if danger appears. Our prairie dogs can be found by campsites 65-67 by the fishing pier and in the swim beach area by the bathrooms. They are accustomed to people and are very playful. We just ask that you do not feed them!
